Summary from January 2011 KoosOlek

In search of a sunflake
Author: Kaido Kirikmäe

One foggy September morning, we stood with a 4-member crew (two adults with two children) in Paide bus station and there was lying ahead a savage expedition into unknown. Namely, for the first time we had a plan to raise our foot in one of the most exotic and culturally affluent land – Spain.

We had never attempted to travel with small children so far and certainly the parents are familiar that this means at least within 50% more problems.

We were inspired by the idea of finding a certain community from South of Spain mountainous region, which has been living for decades in harmony with nature.

Spain local bus station is open 24 hours, whence you can ride here and there, also closer to the target of our trip which was one small village, surrounded by olive and lemon tree plantations.

Locals were right that the community was difficult to find and our searches borne fruit in the next arrival of the darkness.

On one side lived people who prefer more “picaroon lifestyle” and some hundreds of meters onward were living their daily lives another group who had natural and healthier lifestyle more near to the heart. This place is not recommended eating meat or alcohol consumption. There’s lots of family people and it was quite strange to see how in the early morning from this isolated location children were sent to school.

Ethnicity was diverse, nations were represented across Europe, plus America and Japan. Some of them explore, experience, look and leave; others stay, being found this THE place where you stay until the days of your life.

Everyone earns living there with what what they can do: there is a street circus, traveling musicians, practitioners engaged with craft activity, and some grow herbs. Also not to miss local goat cheese makers and bakers.

The rest of the crew: Tiiu, Täheke and Tuule-Säde
